“For centuries, mystical creatures of all description were gathered to a hidden refuge called Fablehaven to prevent their extinction. The sanctuary survives as one of the last strongholds of true magic in a cynical world. Enchanting? Absolutely. Exciting? You bet. Safe? Well, actually, quite the opposite . . .” (Brandon Mull book cover)
This is a piece of the summary of the Fablehaven book printed on the inside flap. Kendra and her brother, Seth, travel to visit their grandfather for the summer, completely oblivious to the fact that he is the current caretaker of a secret preserve that is home to many magical creatures. Some creatures are fascinating, while all are extremely dangerous. A treaty, made long ago, keeps certain rules and boundaries to protect both the caretaker and the magical creatures. When Seth breaks the rules, a dangerous and exciting journey begins for all humans on the preserve. The question is, will they be able to save Fablehaven and themselves before it’s too late? Join Kendra and Seth on their journey to find the answer.
I enjoyed this amazing story and all its fascinating creatures because it is very captivating. There’s plenty of action and adventure that keeps you on the edge of your seat and anticipating the next move! I was able to connect well with the characters in the novel because they have personalities similar to mine and Kendra is close to my age. The descriptions and word usage lured me in and I felt like I was in the story experiencing everything with Kendra, Seth and their grandfather. I’m amazed at how life like the story seems. Everything seems so real that I can almost believe in the fairies and naiads. Brandon Mull uses real life animals to describe what the creatures look like to someone who is indifferent to their existence. I encourage others to read and enjoy this novel, for what good is a book that isn’t read? I’m almost positive that the readers of this novel will enjoy it also!
