Under the First Amendment to the US Constitution the citizens of the US are given the right to freedom of speech. I believe that this means we are allowed to say whatever they want as long as it is true and we aren’t trying to threaten anyone. Limits must be put on our freedoms to keep us from crossing the line of right and wrong but many people question who’s to say what’s right and what’s wrong. Something may be right in one person’s mind and seem wrong from another’s point of view. This is where the aspects of our freedoms become confusing. In my opinion, the “right” thing would most likely be what the government determines to be correct. So, in reference to that, we are able to express our opinions and say what we like as long as it is seen fit in the government’s eyes. Therefore, we should not threaten or insult others for that would be crossing the line.
Now, how does all this relate to me as a blogger? I, as a blogger, have the freedom to say what I please and post it where I want. Some may take advantage of this to post everything that they think, forgetting the fact that it is now out for everyone to see. We should be mindful of everything we post because we do not know who may see it. Once it’s out, it’s out. Because blogging is a way of using our freedom of speech, we have the same boundaries that apply to every other type. Offensive statements can get us in trouble with our school, parents or friends. We may very well hurt ourselves more than we hurt others. As a blogger, I should be careful what I write.
